About the event
Join us at the observatory for a special viewing of the lunar eclipse, also known as a blood moon.
This rare event occurs when the moon is positioned behind the Earth, blocking light from the sun resulting in the moon appearing red. The last time this happened in the U.S. was in 2022, where the event photo was taken by professor Evan Jellison using a cell phone and telescope. Members of the public and students/affiliates of Texas State are welcome to take part, we will have telescopes out for viewing and hopefully some astrophotography going to capture the eclipse.
The eclipse will be beginning around 11 PM (3/13) and ending around 5 AM (3/14), with the peak of the eclipse being around 2 AM. Check out the following link to see exact times when the eclipse phases will start/end: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/lunar/2025-march-14
